Plating is not a filler it is a coating that is applied
electrically.
STERLING SILVER
1. SOLDER REPAIRS WILL SHOW A METAL BUILDS UP WITH
SLIGHT COLOR DIFFERENCES.
EXPLANATION: Where the item is
to be soldered the solder will make it appear and be
thicker because you usually need this for strength.
The repair will be a different color because of the
heat and solder that is used. You can cover this by
sponge plating the area or replating the whole item
if necessary. Sponge plating is not always possible,
it depends on the size and how many repair spots.
2. SMALL NICKS, CUTS, DENTS WILL REMAIN AFTER
REPAIRS, PARTICALLY IN THIN GAUGED CEMENT FILLED,
CANDLESTICK BASES, CUPS, COLUMNS, BRUSH, AND MIRROR
FRAMES
EXPLANATION: Most of the nicks,
cuts and dents can be polished out but if it is to
thin it will cut through, If you try to fill the
items the color difference will not look good and
the item will have to be replated. Some the above
items cannot be removed because of where they are.
Hidden by handles, can't get the brushes so they
may be polished out.
3. CHASING AND ENGRAVING THAT IS WORN OR DAMAGED
WILL NOT BE REPAIRED
EXPLANATION: When you try to
remove dents, nicks or repairs on sterling silver.
The metal is usually thin and engraving or chasing
that is ruined or need of repair can not be always
saved. We are able sometimes to replace or
re-engrave the item.
4. ALL REPAIRS REQUIRE REFINISHING - THE PIECES WILL
BE BRIGHTER AND ALL OXIDATION WILL BE LOST.
EXPLANATION: When we repair any
item it is first necessary to thoroughly clean the
item before any repairs can be done, This will
usually remove the oxidation or blacking from the
item. The antiquing, blacking can usually be put
with stains and inks. This process will normally
happen naturally over time.
5. NO REPLACED PARTS CAN BE RETURNED
(BRUSHES, MIRRORS, KNIFE BLADES, HANDLES INSULATORS,
ETC.)
EXPLANATION: No replacement
parts can be returned because these items are
usually broken out of the items and are removed in
small pieces or drilled out. When replacing blades
we use stainless steel, and try to match the style
and size of the blades.

6. HARD TO REFINISH SURFACES ADJACENT TO BORDERS,
HANDLES AND FEET WILL BE FROSTY IN COLOR
EXPLANATION: When replating
you can not reach these areas with a buff or brush.
When it was originally done the items was brand new.
We have to remove all of the old plating before
replating
7. BOTTOMS AND INSIDE OF TEAPOTS AND SIMILAR PIECES
WILL BE FROSTY IN COLOR
EXPLANATION: We can not
reach all of the area inside of teapots and similar
pieces. We usually will leave it shiny or sometime
we scratch the area to blend it all together.
8. ENGRAVING MAY BE SLIGHTLY FAINTER -
TWO TONE FINISHES WILL BE LOST
EXPLANATION: When you try to
remove dents, nicks or repairs on items whether
silver, Plated, or other metal. The metal is usually
thin and engraving or chasing that is ruined or need
of repair can not be always saved. We are able
sometimes to replace or re-engrave the item.

can cover this by sponge plating the area or
replating the whole item if necessary.
12. SOLDER HEAT MAY CAUSE SOME DISCOLORATION AND
BLISTERING NEAR REPAIR
EXPLANATION: Where the item is
to be soldered, the solder will make it appear to be
a different color because of the heat and solder
that is used. Blistering will occur because of the
temperatures we must use to repair the item. You can
cover this by sponge plating the area or replating
the whole item if necessary. Sponge plating is not
always possible, it depends on the size and how
many repair spots.
13. ONLY WORK ON ORDER WILL BE DONE, NO CLEANING,
POLISHING OR PLATING ON WORK ORDER
EXPLANATION: We will only do
what is on the work order. We do clean the item but
only what is necessary to do the repair. We do
not polish the whole item or replate
unless on work order.
14. PIECES ON THIS ORDER HAVE ( ) (WORN PLATE) (
) HEAVY TARNISH ( ) DENTS ( ) NICKS/SCUFFS
All items usually have one or all of these on them.

The work order.. The first place to look for these
warning is on handles, feet, borders, finials, these
items are usually lead, pewter, brass, they usually
appear gray in color and are soldered to the item.
Please ask your customers what they
want as a value on their items, This is necessary
because t the item will be insured when in our
possession and must be shipped. You also may want to
take a picture or copy it on the copier for your
records. You also can trace the item by laying it on the
top of sheet and tracing around it. Put all necessary
information that appears on the item, company who made,
numbers, we usually put our invoice number on the back
of it. Don't forget these items usually can not be
replaced if lost. They must be located in an antique
store or from an estate if possible.
